It was wailing, dirge and eulogy as the remains of 1993 Africa Footballer of the Year, Rasheed Yekini, were buried in his home town Ira, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The ex-international, 48, who died on Friday was buried according to Muslim rites at 4 p.m.
Representatives of Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Kwara state governments were present at the burial. Osun state government also announced a 1million naira endowment fund for the family, just as others pledged to to help the family.
Ex-internationals like Ike Shorunmu, Mutiu Adepoju and Taiwo Ogunjobi were also present at the burial.
According to Yekini's mother, Alhaja Sikirat Yekini, the late footballer was ill for 5 years before he eventually died.
