Lagos State Government Sacks 1,000 Striking Doctors

Dr. Jide Idris, Commissioner for Health

Following the decision of the doctors not to return to their duty posts until their demands are met, the Lagos State government made good its threat by sacking the striking doctors.
The letters of dismissal were signed by LASUTH Chief Medical Director, Professor David Oke, and dated May 4, 2012. In all, 1,000 doctors have been dismissed while new ones are currently being recruited.
The medical doctors embarked on an indefinite strike on April 24 over issues bordering on salary increase and tax reduction. This is the second time the doctors will be embarking on an indefinite strike. The first one was during Governor Fashola's  first term in office.
