Housekeeper disappears with N9 million jewellery

An 18-year-old housekeeper was on Thursday charged with theft of jewellery worth N9m at the Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, Monday Komina, who lives at Plot, 629, Taiwo Aromire St., Isheri, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of stealing, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Kemi Adeniran, told the court that the offence was committed on August 15, 2012 at Omole Phase II, Ikeja.

She said the accused, who was a housekeeper of the complainant, Mr. Adewale Okesanya, allegedly burgled his room and stole wrist watches worth N5 million, a set of chains, rings and clothes valued at N4m.

“After stealing the items, he disappeared and was later arrested and handed over to the police,’’ she said. Adeniran said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Chief Magistrate Yetunde Aje-Afunwa adjourned the case till October 10 for further hearing.

Cynthia Okorogu- Social Networking Gone Bad

Cyhthia Osokogu must have thought that she was opening another wonderful page in her book of friendship when she headed to Lagos for a business transaction last month. The Abuja-based fashion dealer and only daughter of Major Gen. Frank Osokogu (Rtd) was declared missing on July 22, and her corpse was discovered in a Lagos mortuary a few days ago.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Cynthia was murdered by a group of students who became her friends on the social networking site, Facebook. The students had allegedly picked her up at the airport, took her to a hotel in Festac where she was drugged and robbed (and probably raped) before she was strangled.

There is every reason to be cautious about meeting strangers, no matter how exciting or adventurous it may sound. The social network media is as dangerous as it is interesting, and absolute care must be taken.

May Cyhthia's soul rest in peace, may He give her family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Alex Song Joins Barcelona

Days after shipping Robin van Persie to Manchester United for £24 million , Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger has lost another player- at the right price of course- as Alex Song signed for the Catalans giant, Barcelona FC.

The Cameroon international signed a 5-year contract with the Spanish giants after completing his medical.

The switch cost Barcelona FC £15 million, confirming Arsene Wenger as the only coach who has ever made profit from player transfers, as it cost him only £1 million to sign Alex Song to the London side.

Alex Song spent a year on loan with Arsenal before cementing a permanent deal from Bastia in 2005. He played 206 matches for Arsenal, scored 10 goals and established himself as perhaps the best defensive midfielder in the Premiership.

Meanwhile my brother contacted some doctors online and hospitals that specialize in this kind of tumor.. He was the one that gave the estimated price via email”

Clifford Orji's death: what manner of justice?

Clifford Orji, the alleged rirualist and cannibal who made news made waves back then, died in Kirikiri Maximum prison over the weekend. While that has become a stale news and some people are actually happy at the death of an 'evil man', I'm seriously troubled about the justice system in this country.

Clifford Orji was never tried in court until his death. He was in custody for over 13 years and nothing was done about his case. Why would a society that claims to be treading the path of sanity detain a human being for 13 years without trial? How many more people have died in silence as a result of this? 

Even if Clifford Orji was guilty of all charges, wouldn't it have been proper to sentence him to a jail term? After he was caught, stories went around that some powerful people in the society were his clients. Soon after, he was incarcerated and that was the end of the story.

James Ibori was discharged and acquitted in Nigeria but jailed in the UK; Erastus Akingbola's case was thrown out of court in Nigeria, but a UK court found him guilty of criminal charges. Yet, the Nigeria legal system is modelled after the UK's. So, what exactly are we doing wrong? I'm sure you all know the answer.

Corruption has legalised lawlessness in the country. Every story about the trial of the 'high and mighty' has become a case of 'old story, new characters'.

Many Nigerians are victims of police,army and even LASTMA brutality. A gentleman was buried last week after he died as a result of police brutality. Many Nigerians are in police custody for days, prisons are congested, and court cases take forever for the poor man; but the rich criminals walk about freely.

Clifford Orji died as an innocent man because the court never found him guilty; and I am sure that his blood will certainly be on the hands of those who denied him a fair trial.

In the meantime, where is Reverend King? He was sentenced to death by hanging but has since appealed. No news has been heard about the case since then, but I won't be surprised if he has been released already. That's Nigeria's justice system for you.

"Beverly Hills Cop II" Director, Tony Scott Commits Suicide

Famed director Tony Scott - who directed Top Gun among many other major films - jumped to his death today off an L.A. bridge, according to the L.A. County Coroner.

According to the Coroner, 68-year-old Scott -- Ridley Scott's brother -- jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island around 12:30pm.

U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn said a suicide note was found in Scott's Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

Scott directed such films as "Top Gun," "Beverly Hills Cop II," "Enemy of the State," and "The Taking of Pelham 123."

Authorities used sonar equipment to find Scott's body in the port's murky waters. His body was recovered at approximately 4:30pm ... four hours after he jumped.

His body has since been turned over to coroner officials.

Fabrice Muamba retires

Bolton midfielder, Fabrice Muamba, on Wednesday announced his retirement from professional football.

Muamba said he was being forced to retire based on the recommendation of his medical team.

A statement on the club’s website quoted him as saying he was “devastated” but “thankful.”

The 24-year-old said, “Football has been my life since I was a teenage boy and it has given me so many opportunities.

“Above all else, I love the game and count myself very lucky to have been able to play at the highest level.

“While the news is devastating, I have much to be thankful for,” the statement said.

The Congolese had collapsed for 78 minutes on the pitch at the White Hart Lane during an FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham in March.

Misadventure: 2 suspected bombers blow themselves up

Part of Kaduna metropolis was on Tuesday thrown into confusion as two suspected suicide bombers blew up themselves while taking an object suspected to be a bomb to an unknown destination.

The two suspects, according to an eyewitness, were on a motorcycle heading towards the northern part of the state at about 3pm when the object exploded killing them on the spot.

Another motorcyclist, said to be following the two suspects, had his stomach ripped. He was rushed to the 44 Army Reference Hospital in the metropolis, where he later died.

Evelyn Lozanda, the woman he married on July 4th, has filed for divorce! Chad Johnson was arrested for domestic violence over the weekend after he head-butted his wife.

The lady filed for divorce, claiming that her marriage is 'irretrievably broken'.

Hmmmmm........ divorce after just 6 weeks of marriage????? This is not only sick but annoying. Why get married if you are not man enough to stay married?

Yinka Johnson granted bail as police drop manslaughter charge

Mrs Yinka Johnson, the female banker who was accused of killing a LASTMA official while driving against the traffic last Friday, has been granted bail by the Igbosere Magistrate Court judge after the manslaughter charge against her was dropped. The police, apparently satisfied from their investigation that she did not commit the crime, only charged her for driving against traffic. Consequently, she was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 while the case was adjourned till September 5.

I saw this coming. Going by the way the news went viral and the many BlackBerry broadcasts that proclaimed her innocence, I knew the manslaughter charge would be dropped. But then, all these wouldn't have happened if she didn't drive against the traffic. Let's all learn to respect the law, no matter how highly placed and connected we may be.

May the soul of the dead LASTMA official rest in peace, and may God comfort his family. I really detest the LASTMA officials but this is a human life -LASTMA or not.

Okene Residents Accuse Soldiers of Brutality.

Residents of Okene, Kogi satae, have accused the soldiers deployed to that area of brutality. The soldiers were deployed to Okene following the suspected terrorist attacks in that area. 

The residents said that rather than maintain peace and orderliness in the area, the soldiers have been harassing citizens who are going about their legitimate businesses.

As usual, the Commandant has denied any wrongdoing by his men but promised to visit the place this week.

Knowing how barbaric those low ranked soldiers can be, I have a strong feeling that this story is true.

Veteran Yoruba Actor, Dento, Passes On

One of the veteran actors in the Yoruba movie industry, Ahmed Odunla a.k.a Dento, has passed on. The actor died after a long battle with partial paralysis (stroke). He will be buried today (07/08/2012) according to Islamic rites.

It's really so sad how these guys who gave their all to a profession that has now become a money-spinner, die in abject poverty. I saw him a few years ago and was moved to tears; he looked unkempt and frail.

Usain the Bolt!

When Yohan Blake finished ahead of him at the Jamaica Olympic trials, I had a very strong feeling that Usain was using fellow compatriot, Yohan Blake as a distraction- and he proved me right. I just imagine what would have happened if he had started well. Seriously, sugarcane no be bamboo! Lolz.
