Forbes, in its 25th year of global wealth ranking, says there are 1,226 billionaires in the world presently! Mexican Carlos 'Slim' Helu still tops the chart with a net worth of $69 billion, while Bill Gates comes second with $60 billion. Warren Buffet is third with $44 billion.

Nigeria has 2 billionaires on the list. Aliko Dangote dropped 25 places to the 76th position in the latest ranking. His drop from the 51st to the 76th position is as a result of a $2.6 billion decrease in wealth, from $13.8 billion to $11.2 billion.

Globacom Chairman, Mike Adenuga, moved from the 597th to the 595th position as a result of a wealth increase of $2.2 billion from $2.1 billion to $4.3 billion.

Facebook founder, Mark Zukerberg is ranked 35th with a net worth of $17.5 billion .

Nollywood actor and producer, Saheed Balogun is a very happy man at the moment. The light-skinned actor got a car as birthday gift from the Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko. Saheed was robbed of his car in 2010, and has been going about in cabs ever since. Incidentally, his stolen Toyota Camry was replaced with a 2011 version of the car- and the governor splashed N4 million on the state-of-the-art car.

Nigerian Bags 30-year Jail Term for Drug Trafficking

Adegboyega Adeniji, a Nigerian citizen, will spend the next 30 years in prison for attempting to smuggle hard drugs worth about N1 billion into the United Kingdom.

Adeniji sentence is coming 11 months after an investigation  was launched by the UK Border Agency.

According to officers at the Heathrow Airport, the 48-year-old Nigerian was stopped and searched when he arrived in the UK on a flight from Amsterdam on 4 April 2011. Searches of his two suitcases revealed they contained 31 kilos of cocaine, 5 kilos of heroin and 2 kilos of methamphetamine all estimated to have a street value of over  N1 billion [£4million].

A search of Adeniji’s flat in Regent’s Plaza, Kilburn, revealed 23 suitcases, many of which tested positive for traces of drugs. Evidences suggesting that he had done the same journey to Amsterdam on many previous occasions under the guise of a businessman, who supplied heavy machinery to the oil business in Nigeria, were also found.

Jim Jarvie, Deputy Director of the UK Border Agency’s Criminal and Financial Investigation, said the true amount of drugs smuggled by the Nigerian will never be known.

“Adeniji was clearly a significant figure at the centre of an extensive criminal network," he said. "He was involved in the importation and distribution of class A drugs on a grand scale. Although the true amount of drugs he smuggled into the UK will never be known, it is probably safe to assume he has been responsible for the importation of tens – if not hundreds - of millions of pounds worth.”

Since his arrest, assets of between £500,000 and £1 million have been frozen by UK Border Agency investigators. They will now be the subject of Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation proceedings.

Adeniji admitted importation charges, but denied conspiring to import class A drugs.

A jury at Isleworth Crown Court unanimously found him guilt, sentencing him to 30 years imprisonment.

Chocolate City's prolific rapper, Ice Prince Zamani, has become a celebrity dad!  The 'Oleku' crooner impregnated a 20-year-old student, Bimbo Babatunde, and she was delivered of a baby boy on March 1, 2012. Bimbo is Ice Prince's girlfriend.

The baby has been christened Toluwalase, and Ice Prince is not talking to the press about the baby for now.

Court Orders NDLEA to Pay Baba Suwe Within 21 Days

Popular Yoruba comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, who is well known as Baba Suwe, has again won a case against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in court today.

The anti drug agency had approached the court to challenge its earlier order that the agency should pay the actor the sum of 25million naira as compensation for the violation of his rights to personal liberty.

Giving her judgment earlier today, Justice Yetunde Idowu of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja. Lagos ordered NDLEA to pay the sum of 25million naira into an interest yielding account within 21 days through the Chief Registrar of the High Court.

However, the court granted the request of NDLEA that it would not offer apology in any National Newspaper as earlier ordered, pending the outcome of the case before the Court of Appeal.

Baba Suwe was kept in the NDLEA custody for about 3 weeks for alleged possession of cocaine, but the agency found nothing on him. The incident happened last year.

MTN Customer Relations Executive Awards

The Customer Relations division of telecommunications giant, MTN, rewarded deserving staff in its maiden edition of the C.R.E award. The award, which seeks to recognize staff who have distinguished themselves in the last quarter (October to December 2011),saw the winners walk away with plaques and cash prizes. The event was spiced up with music from 2 legendary musicians- Sir Shina Peters and Ras Kimono.

Although I only witnessed the last few minutes of the show, I still had fun.

Court Frees Gbenga Daniel

A state High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has said that it cannot proceed with the trial of a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission did not follow due process in the amendment of the initial charges brought against him.

The court, presided over by Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje, in declaring Daniel a free man, said that instead of seeking the leave of the court in amending the charges, which were initially 15, the EFCC rather relied on the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Wemimo Ogunde, SAN.

The judge held that the court cannot proceed with the trial of Daniel based on the new 43-count charge except the EFCC decides to file the case afresh and follow due process.

After the ruling, which lasted for about an hour, Daniel's lead counsel, Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, said that he was set to confront the EFCC again if the commission decides to file the charges afresh.

Osipitan reiterated the innocence of his client, saying justice had been done by the court.

Policeman Seizes KAI Official's Phone for Taking Bribe

The law caught up with an officer of the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), on Wednesday night, when a police officer seized his cell phone for allegedly taking bribe from a bread seller.

The drama took place on the premises of Motorway building on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Oregun, Ikeja, and threw the area into confusion as the two KAI officers, who had come to arrest street hawkers fled to save themselves from being mobbed.  

The police officer, Mr A. Abdulahi, who was attached to the building, said that he had seized the mobile phone because the KAI officers could not provide the receipt of the alleged money they took from one Mrs Josephine Mbanefo.

According to him, the KAI officers had stormed the car park belonging to Motorway to arrest food vendors without seeking permission from the private security and the policemen attached to the area.

As part of his effort to forestall the breakdown of law in the area, the police had intervened and had to seize the mobile phone pending when the KAI officers would produce receipt of the money collected from Mbanefo.

Speaking, Mbanefo, who sells bread at the park, alleged that two KAI officers apprehended her while selling bread loaded in her car. She said that the officers drove her to the KAI unit, Alausa, where they collected N12,000 from her.

She stated that the officers refused to give her receipt for the money she paid, but instructed her to write an undertaking not to sell in the place anymore.

According to Mbanefo, the KAI officers also seized her car key, but released it after she had paid N1,000 as gate fee at the KAI office.However, another set of KAI officers, assisted by the state Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences, returned to the scene two hours later to collect the mobile phone, but they were resisted by securitymen who wanted them to provide the receipt of the N12,000.

Justin Bieber Gets Another Car Gift on His Birthday

Justin Bieber has been given an electric car for his 18th birthday. The Baby hitmaker - who reached the milestone age on March 1 - was presented with a luxury Fisker Karma vehicle with a solar-panelled roof by his manager Scooter while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Presenting the teen star with the car, Scooter said: "You work really, really hard. I always yell at you don't get anything flashy. You know, we're not about that. Be humble, be humble and I kind of broke my own rule.

"So we wanted to make sure you were environmentally friendly and we wanted to make sure since you love cars that when you're on the road you are always environmentally friendly and we decided to get you a car that would make you stand out.

I think you know where I'm going and you're kind of freaking out right now." However, this isn't the first luxury motor Justin - who is dating Selena Gomez - has owned. Last year, he treated himself to a £100 000 customised Range Rover, which had a sound system worth £5 ,000, leather interior, modified paintwork and a Cosworth engine.

A source said: "Justin loves his motors even though he's barely old enough to drive.

"His girlfriend Selena Gomez will be well impressed with his latest. It's the business."

Additionally, Justin owns a Batman-themed customised Cadillac and a Ferrari.

Hugh Hefner's Son Charged for Assault

Hugh Hefner's son, Marston Hefner, has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend. Hugh Hefner is the founder of Playboy Magazine.

Marston was arrested earlier this month after allegedly attacking Playmate of the Year Claire Sinclair inside the couple's apartment and now he faces over a year in a jail after being charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

According to TMZ.com, Marston is also facing punishment for vandalism after he allegedly damaged Claire's laptop during the heated argument.

Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder to Perform for the Queen

Kylie Minogue will perform at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert. The Spinning Around singer is the latest act to be confirmed for the June 4 bash in London, along with Motown star Stevie Wonder.

She gushed: "I'm honoured to be invited to perform at the Diamond Jubilee Concert.

Man Jailed for Stealing Church Offering

A worker in a church, Romanus Oparaugo, shocked the congregation of Christian Pentecostal Mission, CPM , at Ajao Estate, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, when he pretended he was praying during a vigil and went to the altar and stole church offering.

Oparaugo, who lives at 14, Wahab Street, Ajao Estate, confessed that he has been doing it since 2005 after he joined and became a worker in the church because he does not receive any allowance from the church as a worker.

The father of two kids was unlucky this time because he was caught, handed over to the police and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for stealing.

He was yesterday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty.

The 35-year old Oparaugo, who hails from Mbaise in Imo state, pretended to be praying and went to the altar and stole N45, 000 in the offering box and hid it in the pocket.

He was, however, apprehended by security men who searched him and recovered the money before handing him over to the police at Ajao station where he confessed to stealing the money.

After he was charged to court, he stunned the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. M. Ajayi, by confessing that it was not the first time he was stealing offering money.

Oparaugo now in prison custody at Kirikiri, Apapa, said he joined the church in 2005 and since then he has been stealing from the offering box as a means of livelihood.

He also revealed that some church workers also do it.

He pleaded guilty to the two-count charge and pleaded for leniency. The court found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.

The court ruled that the sentence will run concurrently.

While going to prison, he told P.M.NEWS that he took God’s money and not church’s own.
