Reese Witherspoon Engaged to Jim

Reese Witherspoon is ready to walk the line to the altar again. The 34-year-old Oscar winner and mother of two is betrothed to Hollywood agent Jim Toth, sources confirmed.

"Reese Witherspoon is engaged and the couple is extremely happy," her publicist confirmed.

No word yet when the duo will tie the knot, but the upcoming nuptials will mark the second union for Witherspoon.

The actress was previously hitched to actor Ryan Phillippe for seven years and they had two children together, 10-year-old daughter Ava and 7-year-old son Deacon, before they divorced in 2008 amid allegations he cheated on her.

After ending a tabloid-heavy two-year relationship with Rendition costar Jake Gyllenhaal in December 2009, Witherspoon hooked up with CAA honcho Toth a month later. The twosome kept their romance under wraps until this spring, however, when they were spotted cozying up during a getaway for Reese's birthday and, later, spending time together with her children.

Uche Jombo is 42 Years Old? Haba!

The Future Awards nominee and one of Nigeria's most profilic actresses, Uche Jumbo, is cuurently alleged to be 42 years old, as against her claim of 31 years which made her eligible for The Future Awards nomination.

Seriously, this is nothing but a weak attempt to rubbish Uche's reputation. How can she be 42 years old????? How old will our notable footballers be then?

Abeg, leave Uche alone to enjoy her life. Shebi Genny is 31 years old too!

I really wanted to wish you all merry xmas Saturday,but the news of the Jos bomb blast really unsettled me. Are we too young to realize that our size is our strength? Worse still, nobody seems to be doing anything about bringing the culprits to book. Ikemba Ojukwu Down with Stroke.

IKEMBA Nnewi and former leader of defunct Republic of Biafra, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was, yesterday, admitted at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu following a stroke which had kept him unconscious since last week.

Ojukwu, who turned 77, November 4, 2010,suffered the stroke at his GRA residence in Enugu last week and was being treated by his personal physicians until Sunday afternoon when his condition reportedly deteriorated.

He was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of UNTH at Ituku-Ozalla near Enugu where medical experts and consultants are now battling to return him to consciousness.

One of the doctors at the unit who spoke with Vanguard under condition of anonymity, yesterday, confirmed that the former Biafran leader was on admission and was currently under intensive care because of his failing health condition.

He said: “I can rightly confirm to you that the Ikemba Nnewi had a stroke and was rushed down to the hospital Sunday afternoon. He is in the Intensive Care Unit and a team of medical experts are taking care of him.

“We believe that he suffered a stroke. He is in a good hand as every apparatus of the hospital has been deployed to give him the best treatment. Already a team of consultants and experts at UNTH are working on him. He is being given full attention and monitored effectively.”

Ojukwu, who contested the 2007 presidential election under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, had been battling with an eye ailment in the past few years.

Some sympathizers at the hospital could not reach him, yesterday, but were received by his wife, Bianca and personal aides.

Ojukwu, at age 34, led the defunct Biafran Republic between 1966 and 1970 toward freedom and separation from the Nigerian State, after massive killings in the North.

Meanwhile, many of his supporters and admirers particularly members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB led by Chief Ralph Uwazulike, have started praying for his quick recovery.

Eto'o is African Footballer of the Year- Again.

Despite his not-so-fantastic showing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Cameroun's Samuel Eto'o rode on the back of his blistering UEFA Champions' League success and his goalsoring form in Inter Milan to clinch the Glo/CAF African Footballer of the Year for a record 4th time. Eto'o beat Ghana's Asamoah Gyan and Cote d'Ivoire's Didier Drogba, who clinched the second and third positions respectively.

As expected, the Super Eagles got no mention, but Taiye Taiwo and Vincent Enyeama made the Africa XI. Other winners include Ghana (Team of the Year), and Ahmed Hassan of Egypt. He won the Best Player Based in Africa award.

The award ceremony tookplace in Cairo, Egypt. I will provide a list of all the winners  soon. But for now, let's hail the king.

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds Split

One of the sexiest couple in Hollywood is heading for a divorce!!! Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have separated after two years of marriage.

“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” Reynolds’ rep said in a statement. “We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

Just a few weeks ago, the duo was seen looking “crazy in love” at a restaurant in New York City, though now, unsurprisingly, there’s no official word on what led to the stars’ breakup. Which, actually, is pretty much par for the course for a couple who somehow managed to maintain the lowest of public profiles throughout their relationship.

There’s also no word on when the duo went their separate ways, though they are reportedly living apart at the moment. But for anyone looking for a bit of silver lining, the split is said to be amicable, something Reynolds’ statement certainly backs up.

Rumors first surfaced last month that there may be trouble in paradise, with reports blaming the duo’s conflicting work schedules on keeping them apart, though the couple’s reps dismissed the rumblings at the time.

And at least over the summer, the seemed to be making quality time a priority, purchasing a $2.8 million home in Los Angeles.

Domkat Bali Becomes Traditional Ruler

Former Defence Minister and one of Nigeria’s longest serving generals, General Domkat Bali, has been selected as the new Ponzhi Taroh, the paramount ruler of the Taroh nation amidst protests.

He replaced the former Ponzhi Taroh, Chief Edward Zhattau, who died in 2008

Taroh is the home of the Langtang general, who held sway during the military era. The Plateau State Government had on December 2, 2010 repealed the law on the selection and appointment of the Ponzhi Taroh. The new gazette had made the ‘Ce‘ ruling family which has five clans, the heir apparent to the throne.

The National President Gazum Cultural, Economic, and Social Development, Clement Chirman, and four others had dragged the Plateau State Government to a Langtang court, praying the court to prevail on the state government to use the old law (Cap 20, no 3 of 1975) instead of the new one to select a new Ponzhi Taroh.

Justice Daniel Longji, had restrained the government from going ahead with the exercise pending the resolution of all the matters in the dispute.

Chirman, who spoke with our correspondent in an interview in Jos on Sunday, regretted that despite the court order, the state government went ahead with the exercise even when the kingmakers did not form a quorum.

Adebayor to Replace Yakubu?

Everton boss David Moyes has hinted he is ready to replace his misfiring duo of Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Louis Saha with Emmanuel Adebayor and Nicklas Bendtner in the January transfer window.

Moyes has expressed his displeasure with the performance of his strikers who have been goal-shy since the season began. Tim Cahill is the Toffees‘ top scorer with eight goals, but he will soon be unavailable on Asian Cup duty for Australia.

“I think if any of them became available towards us we’d look,” Moyes told Liverpool Echo.

“But in this window there will not be enough to pick and choose.

“You might have to take what you can if you need something.

“I would like to add two or three but they will be loan players. We have a few people in mind so we will see how it goes.

“Positional wise we could do with a centre-forward and we have been short of a wide right for most of the season so I could do with those two positions.”

Yakubu, Saha and Jermaine Beckford have just three Premier League goals among them this season and this has caused Moyes to worry if they are worth staying at the Goodison Park longer than necessary.

Yakubu was rumoured to be a target for West Ham and Sunderland in the summer but Moyes held on to the huge forward, trusting he would rediscover his scoring form after recovering from injury.

Chief Anthony Enahoro's modus vivendi, whilst he peregrinated through this will-o-the-wisp of a three dimensional world, resonated with a divine halo of an iconic personage who was propelled by the PIRKEAVOTHIAN apothegm which urges man to realize "that the day is short and the work is great, " No wonder that from a very young age, he engaged in self abnegation and mortification of the flesh in a spartan, clinical and cerebral bid to salvage the Nigerian project even at the expense of his health infrastructure.He ceaselessly fulminated against vagabonds in power whose primus mobile had philistinic anchorage on a depreciably mindless crave for vacuous hedonism and ingratiating political megalomania. He must have been viscerally pained to note while he was at the departure lounge, that the ship of the Nigerian State was still nosediving and sliding into an eschewable oxbow lake and cataract and he must finally have wondered if the zoning debate currently going on is not another egregious insult by our elitist political class on the pauperized,sissfied and ossified sensibilities and sensitivities of our lumpen proletariat. Adieu Pa Anthony Enahoro!!

Pa Anthony Enahoro Passes On!

The rank of Nigeria’s founding fathers was further depleted this morning with the passing on of frontline nationalist and elder statesman, Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro.

Enahoro, 87, died in the early hours of today after a protracted illness.

He had been ill since late September when he fell into coma and had been a regular occupant of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, where he died.

The death of foremost journalist, anti-colonial and pro-democracy activist, threw the pro-democracy community into mourning Wednesday because of the octogenarian’s his evergreen usefulness, resourcefulness and relevance in nation-building.

Among those who paid glowing tributes to the mover of the first motion for Nigeria’s independence were Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP leader, Alh. Balarabe Musa, Afenifere stalwart, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Amb. Segun Olusola and Presidential aspirant of the Enahoro-led National Reformation Party, NRP, Dr Sam Nwanti. Others are Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the Edo State Government.

Meanwhile, eminent Nigerian citizens have started pouring in their tributes as they react to the late politician’s death.

In his own reaction, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, felt extremely sorry.

“I am so sorry,” the former military leader, whose regime late Chief Enahoro served as Federal Commissioner for Information, regretted. He went on: “It is very sad indeed that we have to lose such a great man, who was very active in the struggle for actualising independent Nigeria. He was also a very active politician who did a lot for Nigeria.” General Gowon said.

He recalled Chief Enahoro’s role in the successes that his government recorded in those days.

“I recall him as my Federal Commissioner for Information and through that position he occupied in my government, he ensured excellence and displayed understanding in bringing Nigeria to the fore.

“He had to survive a lot of prisons with Awolowo and when Awolowo joined me in holding Nigeria together, Anthony Enahoro always showed cooperation and made relentless effort at making Nigeria truly strong.

“I am very sad at his death. May his soul rest in peace.” Gowon said, adding that he was going to personally visit his Benin home to pay his respect to the fallen hero when he goes to attend the funeral of the late wife of Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, Clara, on Friday.

Nigerian Guild of Editors celebrates Enahoro at death

The Nigerian Guild of Editors has described late Pa Anthony Enahoro as a fighter for justice and a great journalist and Editor of repute.

In a release signed by Mr. Gbenga Adfaye, President, the guild said:

“The Nigerian Guild of Editors has received the news of the death of Pa Anthony Enahoro today with gratitude to God for a life spent in the service of humanity. Although a star had indeed fallen, the testimonial of the life he lived does not warrant sorrows. Pa Enahoro left a legacy of what is good for the people.

“Pa Enahoro was not just a great Nigerian and nationalist who moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence. He was first of all a great journalist and editor of repute – having edited The Comet, a member of the Zik’s chain of newspapers. He was a fighter for justice, a crusader for the the emancipation of the oppressed. He dared the British colonialists.

“He confronted the internal colonialists of the First Republic even when it meant he had to face treason trial. He confronted the evil of disintegration as Information Minister. And in the old age when he should have retired to a life of rest, he dared the bullets of the military dictators.

“As he breathed his last, he remained in the struggle to have a fair, just and equitable federation, where no tribe is oppressed. He was for all his life in the quest for a truly democratic Nigeria run on a Constitution owned by the people. He did all of this at great personal cost, digging in into the trenches of liberation war for Nigeria.

“Nigeria has indeed lost a great hero. Africa has lost a great son. And journalism has lost a great, glittering reference point.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace and his dream for Nigeria come true.”

Former Press Secretary to the Head of State in the General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime and Uthopo Na Achalla, Igwe Ezeoba Alex Nwokedi, also reacted to Chief Enahoro’s death describing him as a wonderful freedom fighter.

“Chief Anthony Enahoro, a pioneer nationalist, was a doughty political fighter. His lecture in the late 40s entitled, ‘A call for a revolution’, which he delivered at Thom Jude’s Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos, ignited the spirit of nationalism in Nigeria.

“Nigerians will live to cherish his progressive contributions to our growth.” Igwe Nwokedi said.

The 84-year-old first generation Nigerian journalist, who was speaking on phone from his palace at Achalla in Anambra State, recalled the late’s Enahoro as a journalist with difference.

“As a journalist, his editorial comments in West African Pilot in those days were very inspiring to Nigerians”. He said, calling on the Federal Government to name one of Nigeria’s airports after the fallen co-founding father of Nigeria to immortalise him.

Prominent Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, was not left out. He said Chief Enahoro’s passing away at this time had left a big gap.

“A great gap he has left. We have lost a great nationalist and a man who fought for freedom and unity of Nigeria.”

He said the best way to immortalise him was to restructure Nigeria under a true federal system.

“The best to immortalise him is to restructure Nigeria under federal system where we have to live together in peace and harmony; where the smallest ethnic nationality in Nigeria will have access to the highest office in the country.”

Chief Anthony Enahoro, born 22 July 1923, was one of Nigeria’s foremost anti-colonial and pro-democracy activists. He was born the eldest of twelve children in Uromi in the present Edo State of Nigeria. His Esan parents were Anastasius Okotako Enahoro and Fidelia Inibokun née Okoji.

Chief Enahoro had had a long and distinguished career in the press, politics, the civil service and the pro-democracy movement. Educated at the Government School Uromi, Government School Owo and King’s College, Lagos, Chief Enahoro became the Editor of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s newspaper, the Southern Nigerian Defender, Ibadan, in 1944 at the age of 21, thus becoming Nigeria’s youngest editor ever. He later became the editor of Zik’s Comet, Kano, 1945-49, also associate editor West African Pilot, Lagos, editor-in-chief Morning Star, 1950-53.

Poland Swears in Nigerian as First Black MP

John Abraham Godson, a Polish citizen born and raised in Nigeria, has been sworn in as the first black member of Poland’s parliament. Mr Godson had served as a councillor in the city of Lodz before taking up a parliamentary seat, vacated by a party colleague after local elections. His entry into parliament has created a media stir in the mainly white country.

He came to Poland in the 1990s, opening an English-language school and working as a pastor in a Protestant church. He has since married a Polish woman and the couple have four children.

A member of the centre-right Civic Platform party, he was appointed to the seat vacated by party colleague Hanna Zdanowskaafter after she became mayor of Lodz.

It is still quite rare to see black people even in the Polish capital Warsaw, Poland’s most cosmopolitan city, the BBC’s Adam Easton reports.

Racism is still a problem in Poland, where it is not uncommon for well-educated people to make racist jokes, BBC reported. Mr Godson was beaten up twice in the early 1990s but he says attitudes to black people in Poland are changing for the better, particularly since the country joined the EU six years ago. Speaking earlier to Polish radio, Mr Godson said: “I am from Lodz, I will live here, I want to die here and I want to be buried here.”

Dele Momodu Quits Labour Party

Presidential aspirant Bashorun Dele Momodu yesterday resigned his membership of the Labour Party (LP).

Momodu, in a letter to the party’s National Chair Dan Nwanyanwu, said he was uncomfortable with developments within the party.

He said: “I write to notify your good self and office of my resignation from the membership of The Labour Party (LP). You will recall that on 20th November, 2010 I wrote to you drawing your attention to my observations about indications that The Labour Party (LP) had no plans to field a presidential candidate for the 2011 presidential election.

“Since the Labour Party (LP) has decided, in the wisdom of its leadership, to remain in the stagnant waters of primitive party politics, I have resolved to move on by resigning my membership of the party with immediate effect. I consider all the resources and efforts both financial and material that I contributed to the development of the party during the period of my membership as a sacrifice towards strengthening the democratic process in my fatherland.

“It is my hope that sometime in the near future, a new set of credible leaders will emerge within the rank and file of the Labour Party (LP) to help restore the party to its rightful place within the polity. I wish you and your executive team all the best for the future.”

Giving Back to the Community- The BBM Way

A BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) group known as Divas 'n' Hustlers (DnH) took social networking to a new and exciting level when the members visited Arrow of God Motherless Babies' Home in Ajah on December 4, 2010. The DnH group donated food items to the Home, and spent a wonderful time with the kids.

I don't use a BB, but was so impressed with the group's effort that I just had to make my own little contribution. I sincerely hope that others will learn from this- social networking isn't just for the fun of it. It can make the world a better place if we take it seriously.

Chyka, an active member of the DnH, mailed some photos to me. Chyka's story is for another day, and that day is not far away. Lol.
