FIFA Suspends Amos Adamu

As expected, it has happened:

The FIFA Ethics Committee, under the chairmanship of Claudio Sulser, yesterday provisionally suspend, with immediate effect, the members of the FIFA Executive Committee Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii from taking part in any football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) after examining their cases in relation to the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups™.

After hearing Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii, the Ethics Committee considered that a provisional suspension was required while the investigation continues, taking into account the gravity of the case and the likelihood that a breach of the FIFA Statutes, the FIFA Code of Ethics and the FIFA Disciplinary Code has been committed.

Reacting to the suspension of the former director general of the National Sports Commission, former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, Kojo Williams said he had little to add to what he had been saying about the man. Simply put, Kojo said “I have been vindicated. I say no more because, there is nothing to add.

On his part, former chairman of the Nigeria Cycling Federation, Reverend Moses Iloh said, “Glory be to God. Adamu’s sins have been too many. It is a shame that he was caught in a foreign land. He has tarnished the image of this country.”

This is really sad. What is wrong with the elders in this country? What would an old man like Amos Adamu do with $800,000 at this stage of his life?

Court Clears El-Rufai

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday quashed the eight-count charge of abuse of office filed against a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, and two others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The other accused persons charged with El-Rufai were Altine Jubrin and Iro Ismaila who served as public officers under him.

In his pronouncement on the case, Justice Adamu Bello said that the charges brought under the ICPC Act 2000 had been repealed.

The judge said “In the light of this, the court lacks the jurisdiction to try the accused; the charges ought to have been filed under the amended Act of 2003.

“Even if the charges were brought under that Act, this court still lacks the jurisdiction to entertain it; only the FCT High Courts have such jurisdictions.

“The case is therefore, struck out and the three accused are hereby discharged.”

However, the EFCC has prepared fresh charges against him.

Goodbye Rooney?

England striker, Wayne Rooney, seems very ready to leave Manchester United after reports that he refused to sign a new contract. I learnt several big clubs are gunning for him already, and seriosuly wonder why many big stars leave the club whenever they have issues with the coah, Sir Alex Ferguson. If he leaves, Rooney joins David Beckham, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nisterooy as victims of Sir Ferguson's 'wrath'.

Amos Adamu to Face FIFA Ethics Panel

FIFA executive committee member Dr. Amos Adamu will face the football body‘s ethics committee on Wednesday, following the allegations in The Sunday Times that he and Oceania Football Confederation President Reynald Temarii plan to sell their votes in the bid for the 2018 World Cup.

Adamu arrived in Zurich on Sunday to meet with FIFA President Sepp Blatter on the matter but it was learnt that the ethics committee would only welcome the WAFU President and Temarii after conducting its investigations. Blatter had promised an “in-depth investigation” into the allegations.

I learnt he demanded for $800,000, and said he intends to spend it on the construction of a synthetic pitch in Nigeria. Who send am message? I hope he is exonerated, and saves Nigeria another embarrassment. I also hope that the video evidence against him disappears somehow! Lol.

Political Quote

“Every president in our 50 year history was born into a colonial Nigeria. I was not.

“Our generation was born into an independent Nigeria. And so, we have the independence to think anew, to act anew, to dream anew.”

Kwara State governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on why older presidential aspirants should drop their ambition.

Hmmmm…….. I hope he realizes the impact of his older generation dad in his (Dr. Bukola Saraki) political history.
